Introduction Travel Guide
Attractions New Central Hotel is located at Avenida do Almeida Ribeiro, an important commercial hub and tourist attraction in Macau, which is an integral part of the Historic Centre of Macau. It is the first choice of accommodation for travellers who wish to experience the world heritage site where Chinese and Portuguese cultures meet, and to experience the history and culture of the former Portuguese settlement in Macau and the nostalgic atmosphere of the old neighbourhoods along the inner harbour, as well as to embark on the journey of the "World Heritage Tour of the Central District". Ruins of St Paul's In 1835, a fire destroyed the College of St Paul's and its attached church, leaving only the front facade, most of the foundations and the stone steps in front of the church. Since then, the site has become world famous as the remains of St Paul's Church. The locals call it the Ruins of St Paul's because of its resemblance to a traditional Chinese pagoda. Distance from the hotel 0.55 KM, 8 minutes’ walk Senado Square The area in front of the Council Chamber was named after the Council Chamber on the site. In the 1970s, a new fountain was built in the centre of the square, which was popularly known as the "Fountain" by local residents. Since the opening of the city, the Senado Square has been the city centre of Macau, where many festivals and celebrations are held. Distance from the hotel 0.11 KM, 2 minutes’ walk Dom Pedro V Theatre Originally known as the Theatre of Peter V, the Theatre was built in 1860, but only the main part of the building was completed at that time, and it was not until 1873 that the façade, with its neo-classical architectural features, was added. It was the first Western-style theatre in China and was used for theatre and concert performances, as well as a venue for important events for the Portuguese community. Distance from the hotel 0.4KM, 6 minutes’ walk Cinco de Octubre Street Rua da Cinco de Octubre is a famous old street in Macau. The name of the street commemorates the revolution that took place in Portugal on 5th October 1910, which led to the overthrow of the imperial regime and the establishment of a republic. The Macau-Portuguese government changed the name of the street from Surabaya "Kou Meng" to Rua da Cinco de Octubre in commemoration of this event.
